Aviation Experience
The Fontayne Group was founded by the former North America PR director of Swissair, and commercial aviation was, from the start, a core knowledge area for the firm. Cynthia Fontayne spent 13 years at the Swiss carrier, involved in virtually every aspect of airline marketing and operations, from cargo to crisis communications, with the latter a particular strength.
TFG and its professionals are conversant in the language of commercial aviation. We can help airlines avoid the marketing equivalent of "low situational awareness and controlled flight into terrain." We understand the diverse technologies that support it from airline CRS to Web-based distribution models. We have direct sales experience, direct tour operation experience, and have handled virtually every crisis for an airline, from crash to hostage situation, hijacking to labor disputes. We have organized and presented seminars on crisis communications and have participated in FAA tabletop and full-scale crisis simulations.
Our first airline client was British Caledonian Airways for whom we launched the carrier's LAX gateway in 1982. Subsequently, TFG handled the LAX service inaugurals for TAP Air Portugal, Swissair and Cathay Pacific Airways, and the SFO-Dublin service of Aer Lingus. Airline engagements include the development of a ski package brochure for UTA and organizing journalist familiarization trips for Philippine Airlines. Other aviation-related clients have included the World Airline Entertainment Association and in-flight entertainment hardware manufacturer Airvision.
